Ultimate Beverage Challenge 91 points – Pleasing aromas of candied pecans, baked apples, milk chocolate, and honey permeate the nose of this bourbon. Nothing is held back on the palate, with bold flavors of caramel, maraschino cherries, vanilla, grated nutmeg, and cinnamon. Bold and beautiful. – 2018 Ultimate Spirits Challenge (Tried and True Award).April/2018Whisky Advocate 95 points – From first sniff, it’s clear this is mature and stately stuff. It’s quite oak-driven, but rather than purely primary wood, it smells of fine leather, cedar chest, polished handrails, and barrel warehouse. Beneath the woody splendor lurks a core of rich black cherry fruit, which permeates the full-bodied palate, oozing with dark berry fruit that slowly succumbs to butterscotch, espresso, chocolate-covered cherries, and drying tannins. A masterful work of balance and lush flavors..January/2019 | Nose: Spicy, rich, mellow, fruity, hints of sweet oak & caramel.Palate: Creamy, mellow, ripened red berries, rich, spicy, well-balanced, moderately sweet.Finish: Soft, smooth & pleasantly long.
Marriage of two straight rye whiskies that combines the feisty properties of a high rye 2-year-old and the saddle smooth richness of a 16-year-old. The 2-year-old has a 95% rye 5% barley malt mashbill. The older rye has a “barely legal” rye mashbill of 53
Ready for a bigger, better, bitterer bar? Say hello to Bruto Americano! With a bracing dose of bitterness, a bright pop of citrus, and intriguing sylvan notes inspired by distiller Lance Winters’ formative experiences growing up in California in the 1970s | Bruto and Soda is a brilliant session drink. Also recommended in a Negroni, Boulevardier, Americano, and in various Spritzes. | Inspired by Italian modernism, the label was a collaboration between master distiller Lance Winters, head distiller Dave Smith, and bartender/graphic designer Brandon Josie.
Note from Todd Hardie of Caledonia: “The gin is a celebration of our special connection to the land. We use pure grain spirits as a canvas to showcase juniper berry and raw northern honey. Added just before bottling, the raw honey imparts unique floral qualities that vary with season and blossom. Our distillery, on the banks of the Lamoille River in the Northeast Kingdom, is rooted in the agriculture of Vermont. Hardwick, Caledonia Country, is a community inspired by farms where the production of milk, cheese, timber, grains, honey, seeds, and herbs are part of our lives and help define our place.” |
James Suckling 93 points – A delicious chardonnay with sliced cooked apples and subtle vanilla and cream on the nose and palate. Hints of toffee and butterscotch, too. Full-bodied and compact. Racy finish. Very serious. Drink or hold..February/2020 |
